My Mom is well known for having very kitschy parties, example: Las Vegas night in which her house in rural Virginia turns into a casino and everyone dresses like a Las Vegas tourist be it yokel or high roller… The most loved party is quickly approaching The Oscar party. She has a red carpet running down her hallway everyone dresses as if a movie star, we even honor each other with awards (one year while attending with a broken foot, my crutches got awarded for best supporting role, yuck yuck yuck) but the best part of the party…. Food parodies of nominated films.

Up= Pineapple Up-side down cake
Inglorious Basterds= Inglorious Beer-birds (beer chicken)
and many many more

My inquiry to the folks on the scrabbled is to come up with the BEST possible dishes for the ten pictures nominated for best motion picture, which are:

Avitar
The Blind Side
District 9
An Education
Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
Precious
A Serious Man
Up
Up in the Air

Of course if your genius extends to other nominated categories by all means share
</extended>

Already bought 2 tickets to try and force some friends to go, maybe I’ll see some fellow Scrabbled folks there.
</extended>

O.K. so I know I recommended this movie to John but don’t recall if he saw it yet or just didn’t like it.

    <extended>
Anyhow, this was one of my favorite movies from last year and is cool on multiple levels both in terms of the unattainable romance angle but also captured the sheer rush of having a musical project come together and the camaraderie of being in a band and collaborating, and also just getting a second chance at something when you’re past what’s perceived as your prime. Cynical as I am lately I figured I’d just post something positive for a change.

But the guy and girl who star in the movie and wrote the music and are musicians in real life won the oscar for best song and their acceptance speech was pretty cool, and she got cut off and Jon Stewart was classy and brought her back out to finish it.
